Abstract

Knee osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease in older adults and significantly affects mobility and daily function. This study aimed to determine the relationship between advanced age and the severity of knee osteoarthritis among patients at Madani Hospital Medan. A descriptive correlational design was used with a total of 50 elderly participants. Osteoarthritis severity was assessed using the Kellgren–Lawrence classification, while pain, stiffness, and physical function were evaluated using the WOMAC index. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results revealed that most participants were aged 66–75 years and experienced moderate to severe osteoarthritis. A significant relationship was found between advanced age and osteoarthritis severity both radiologically and clinically (p = 0.001). The study concludes that increasing age is associated with greater joint degeneration and more severe osteoarthritis symptoms.
